Green Design Girl: Version 2.0

Welcome to Version 2.0 of Green Design Girl!

Yes, there will be future reincarnations. This beloved site of mine is a work in progress and it will only get better and better with time. It should also be noted that this site is best viewed using Safari or IE Explorer 7.0. If you’re using anything else, some graphic elements may be missing or appear different than intended.

So what’s new around here? Let me count the ways:

1] BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW LOOK + LAYOUT

After my Summer hiatus, you may have forgotten what the first version looked like. You can take a gander here. See? 2.0 is way better. Also, the above header photo is going to rotate from time to time, showing off green design pieces that I’m currently lusting after. You’ll always find info on the showcased piece by clicking on the Header Photo link in the NAVIGATE section.

2] SEARCH FEATURES GALORE

Site Search Engine: In the top left margin. Just enter a word and search away [though you’ll probably have more organized results using Tags].

In the NAVIGATE section of the links, you can now search the 300+ articles in the GDG archives using any of the following:

Tags: Sweet! Tags are finally here. You can search using tags by product category, green material, designer and/or retailer. Want to see how much I love bamboo? Click on “bamboo” and you’ll be hooked up with all of the bamboo-related articles in GDG’s archives.

Visual Archive: For the visual lovahs out there. This will take you to a page of thumbnails, displaying all of the images in GDG’s archives. If a photo interests you, click on it to open a larger version in the right hand margin. You’ll be able to see the accompanying text there. Click on the large version of the image to take you directly to the GDG site.

3] SIDEBAR LINKS

It’s amazingly geeky of me to be thrilled about the addition of links, but really, they are just so awesome and very necessary. Be sure to check them out. You’ll learn so much from this incredible community of design lovers and hardcore greenies. They truly inspire me.

4] NEW GREEN CATEGORIES

Green Fashion Design: The focus on GDG will continue to be interior design, product design and home décor — but I’m adding my fashion fetish to the mix. I’ve been a fashion fanatic my entire life, but to delve into the world of eco.mode and see what’s out there in terms of really cutting edge, eco.chic styles is exciting to me. If you want to pitch a green fashion line to me, please be sure that it is truly modern and stylish. You won’t see any reviews of plain old hemp t.shirts or granola sandals on GDG. Sorry, but that’s just not gonna happen here. Ever.

Green Architecture: From time to time, I’ll be featuring green buildings that intrigue me. There won’t be a major focus on this, but given my love for prefab and anything that’s been made from converted shipping containers, you can expect to see some posts in these areas.

Green Art Scene: To me, art and design go hand in hand. So why not green art and green design? I’ve featured green artists on GDG before, but would like to discover more and will be looking at the art gallery/museum scenes closely for any type of green art/design/fashion exhibits that may be happening around the globe. Of course, art is highly subjective, but if you’re pitching an artist to me, please keep in mind that the focus on GDG is always modern

5] VIDEO BLOGGING

Currently in the works for early 2009, if not sooner. The possibilities are endless when GDG goes mobile. Stay tuned for trouble.

I hope that you enjoy the revamped edition as much as I do. Thanx to all of you for hangin’ in during my Summer hiatus. I’m excited to be back and, as always, I welcome your feedback and hot green tips at greendesigngirl [at] gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you.

A fabulous Autumn to you all!
