Cumulus by Propellor Design. The 2008 Interior Design Show in Toronto is in full swing and Green Design Girl is happy to see so many green and sustainable designs, workshops and talks presented this year – many by Canadian designers.  Amongst my faves are the Vancouver-based Propellor Design, a collective that GDG has featured before, showing off their modern bamboo-made Furrow Parkade, its mini version in the Furrow Traverse and the whimsical Galiano, a conversation starter with its arbutus twig pull. Most of these eco.chic lighting fixtures are currently on display at the show in the popular annual Studio North exhibit. Propellor’s floaty Cumulus is high in eco.design creds because it is made from ecoresin™ leaflets, with a recyclable aluminum canopy. ecoresin™ is made using a “standard minimum of 40% pre-consumer recycled resin” and is also a non-toxic, non-offgassing material. Fortunately, it is becoming more popular amongst designers, artisans and product manufacturers and is also used in a variety of architectural applications. Cumulus ups its eco.design status by functioning with a dimmable CFL, which really should be an automatic component with all new fixtures today. ::more ecoresin chandeliers by Propellor Design here::

Strata by Propellor Design at the Toronto Interior Design Show. Strata seems to be a smaller, ceiling mounted version of Cumulus and is also made from ecoresin™ leaflets and recyclable aluminum. Similar to Cumulus, it has a dreamy and ethereal feel.

Century by Propellor Design at the Toronto Interior Design Show.  As seen in Propellor’s Cumulus, Strata and Red Square chandeliers, the cascading Century is created using leaflets that are made from ecoresin™ [their alternative being “art glass”]. Century reminds me of amber jewel pieces and emits a soft and warm glow, using energy-saving CFL’s. ::an ecoresin intro + more chandeliers here::

Red Square by Propellor Design at the Toronto Interior Design Show. Red Square is a stunning modern piece after my own heart. I love the dramatic application of colour, which is one of the beneficial features of the highly versatile ecoresin™. The creative possibilities are endless. I’ll be posting more about this product and its various applications in the future on GDG.
