“Lifewall tiles also interface with another Ceracasa product called Bionictile, which is able to suck pollution out of the air.”
The eco trend of living walls is more popular than ever, though the technology has come a long way since I first wrote about Louis Vuitton’s walls getting the green treatment in early 2008.
The new Lifewall system by Spain’s Ceracasa is not only modern and modular [two traits that I love!], but also super intelligent on the green front.
The white ceramic Bionictiles have the capacity to ”destroy harmful nitrogen oxides [NOx] which are in the air… caused by pollution from cars and industries.” The tiles use a “patented glaze which causes NOx to react with UV sun rays and humidity, turning the NOx into very small quantities of nitrates and nitrites, inert and harmless to human health.”
A wall that can actually help improve the quality of the air that surrounds it? If that’s not worthy of a bionic name, I don’t know what is.
I’m testing the blogging waters with my new MacBook Pro. If you missed my last post, I’m basically in the midst of transferring 6 years of files[!] while weaning myself off a lifetime of PC/Windows behaviour. I’m in self-imposed Mac bootcamp, if you will.
A huge thanx to the very kind Mac users who wrote in with hot tips and recommended resources for making the transition smoother. I’ve heard from awesome Mac-savvy tumblrs ninakix and ryansinger and quite a few GDG readers and friends who are genuinely avid Mac fans. I’ve still got a lot to learn, but with your help, I’ll happily get there sooner.
Now how about the stunning image above? Click through it to land on a brilliant blog by Frédéric Gautron, a Parisian photographer living in Tokyo, which is where this photo was taken.
During a time when we are all encouraged to add as much green [literally] to our lives as possible, and when the addition of “living walls” are a hot design trend, this image caught my eye instantly. I also love the sharp contrast between nature and the man-made concrete jungle below. It reminds me of my time in Japan, a place that has inspired me in my work and life in so many ways. I encourage you to check out Gautron’s blog for more incredible images like this one.

Topiade by Gas for Louis Vuitton.
The green trend of living walls continues, but now it’s been taken to a new level by Gas Design Group. Existing Louis Vuitton stores around the globe are being outfitted with variations of Topiade, some are more elaborate than others.
It won’t be long before you see some no frills version of these chic overlays at your local Gap or H&M stores [LV + knock offs go hand in hand, don’t they?]. Bring on the green!
